About The Artist
Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Gerri-Anne
Siwek currently resides in Regina. She received her
art training from the Ontario College of Art, the Arts Students
League, New York, and the University of Regina.
Appropriating an image from history and
using humour to humanize that image is Siweks way of
becoming part of history. Rather than icons as objects
of spirituality, her works become icons of humanity through
the use of humour as well as the use of contemporary found
objects, such as buttons. While some of Siweks
works appear to have a religious/Christian content, they represent
first herself and then her roots in art and religion.
