Two of the main goals of the Saskatchewan Arts Board are to nurture an environment in the province where the public has access to Saskatchewan artists and their work, and to ensure that the arts are valued and appreciated as an essential part of our lives.

The agency works toward these goals by showcasing and celebrating the work and accomplishments of our province's artists, organizations, arts educators and volunteers.

The Lieutenant Governor's Arts Awards and its predecessor, the Lifetime Award for Excellence in the Arts both recognize the contribution and achievements made by individuals, groups and organizations to the arts, including all arts disciplines. The awards also promote public awareness, participation and support for the arts.

The agency also congratulates arts community members who have been recognized with provincial and national honours such as the Order of Canada, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.

The Arts Board lends some of the works in its Permanent Collection to provincial, national and international exhibitions so people all over the world have the opportunity to appreciate the talents of Saskatchewan artists.

Saskatchewan artists' work is also exhibited at events such as the annual Canadian Western Agribition and the Arts Board also facilitates partnerships to bring works to public places, so they may be appreciated by a wide audience.
