Saskatchewan Arts Board

Opening reception: September 15, 2011, 7:30 p.m.

The art galleries in Moose Jaw and Swift Current, have made a practise of inviting artists to the south-western corner of Saskatchewan to make art. We have done this in order to introduce artists to this vast and beautiful landscape and to encourage them to make a body of work that we would exhibit in our galleries. It is our hope that the artist would encounter a new and surprising part of Canada and that our local audience would enjoy seeing their place interpreted by a visiting artist. It is also our hope that people encountering the gallery publication would be drawn to this inspiring landscape.

Of all the artists we have invited, Greg Hardy has the most familiarity with south-western Saskatchewan. First visiting over 25 years ago, he has periodically returned to stay for a few days, hike, sketch and paint. Those earlier visits wet his appetite for this mostly-dry place with vast views and beautiful muted colour.
