Tammi Campbell
b. 1974, resides in Saskatoon, SK

Inspired by how the body remembers and reacts to its surroundings, Campbell’s paintings create a dynamic located somewhere between subject and technique. Using the idea of the temporality of existence through bruising as a starting point, they reveal what goes on beneath the surface, through the build up of translucent layers of colour. As a result, her artwork reveals the imperfections of memory and the residues of reconstruction.

Through painting, Campbell attempts to create an encounter that is both abstract in form while human in nature, where pictorial events can be inferred without the presence of a narrative. The bruising effect plays with that duality; the paint is both medium and memory.
