Myron Turner
b. 1935, resides in Winnipeg, MB
Turner is a multimedia artist who works with computers and
photo-based forms. He explores ways in which one visual
form can be mirrored in or transformed into another, suggesting
an absence of rigid formal barriers; where form is fluid
and embedded in the process. His woodcuts, based on zoomed
digital images, continue this exploration. Computer-generated
abstractions suggest a universe of algorithmic forces in
which the individual disappears. By contrast, modernist
abstraction was a strategy for self-expression. Turners
woodcuts, with their personal calligraphy of cutting, rely
upon the tensions between these opposing tendencies.
