Theo Sims
b. 1969, resides in Saskatoon, SK

Sims’ work visually, conceptually, and, in choice of media, elastically spans a wide perimeter - sometimes employing narrative; occasionally utilizing the iconography of his surroundings, and often using banal subjects and objects. By recontextualizing, personalizing, and displacing the ordinary and the everyday, Sims invites a different way of seeing. Although his work has a conceptual armature, it also embraces the personal, the familiar, and the experiential. These ideas come together as installation, sculpture, video, painting, neon, projection, sound work, screen prints, and even the sponsorship of a soccer club as an artistic endeavor.

The feral pigeon has become the focus for this new project by Sims, where he has followed and spied on these ornithological prairie immigrants. Over the course of a year, Sims provides us with glimpses of various pigeons and their lives, bringing consciousness to often unseen daily occurrence.
